Sale of Coast Defence Ship Deodoro
Deodoro was a small coastal battleship (3,162 tons) built in France for Brazil in 1897-99. She had been used for patrol work in the South Atlantic in 1917-18.
On 19 April 1924, Brazil sold the Deodoro to Mexico, where it was renamed Anahuac. The money raised by this sale (8,000 contos) was used towards the construction of the submarine Humayta in Italy.
Anahuac was not modernised while in Mexican service, and was discarded in 1938.
As neither Brazil nor Mexico were signatory to the Washington Naval Treaty, this sale was not impacted by that Treaty, but is included here for completeness.
