Proposed sale of Eagle 31 to Ecuador
Eagle Boats were a class of sixty 500-ton, 200-foot patrol vessels built by the US during World War I. In July 1930 the US proposed to sell Eagle 31 to Ecuador without armament, but in such a condition that she could be subsequently armed by the purchaser. Britain submitted a mild protest regarding this proposal. The US answered that for the time being the matter was not being proceeded with, but if the Ecuadorean Government later decided to go through with the proposal, the US would consult the other signatory powers.
