P-Boats for Poland
The P-Boats were a group of Fifty-four 613-ton anti-submarine patrol vessels built for the Royal Navy during World War I.
On 22 March 1921, Poland apparently submitted a proposal to Britain for the purchase of four “P” boats for L8,000 each. Britain responded by stating that P19, 20, 23, 27, 38, 29, 30, 36, 37 and 64 were available at Chatham, and that the Admiralty was prepared to transfer any four of these vessels to Poland in their present condition as and where they lie, and without guarantees, for that price (inclusive of armament, but exclusive of ammunition, stores, and items of equipment other than what is actually on board at the time of inspection). But delivery could not occur so long as the present embargo upon sale of war material to Poland continued.
No sale eventuated, and Poland was not listed on a March 1922 Foreign Office letter which identified nations which were then negotiating for the purchase of second-hand warships, which implies that this proposal had been abandoned prior to that date.
