The Royal Malaysian Navy Museum in downtown Melaka is small and modest, but a good visit. It was previously located in Lumut, but was relocated to Melaka in 1995 to take advantage of the increased number of tourists. As well as the patrol craft Sri Trengganu, and a Westland Wasp helicopter, they have a good collection of physical artifacts, as well as some interesting displays about Malaysian and Straits Settlements Naval History. Plus, it is within walking distance of the historic Melaka town centre which is worth a tour - and only a short drive from the Malaysian Submarine Museum (featuring the Ouessant).
Sri Trengganu was one of twenty Kedah class Large Patrol Craft built by Vospers Ltd in Portsmouth, UK for the Royal Malaysian Navy. She was laid down in 1961, launched on 12 December 1962, and commissioned on 16 December 1963 following her delivery voyage from the United Kingdom. She was decommissioned in 1994, and donated to the state government of Melaka in 1996 to be an exhibit in the Royal Malaysian Navy Museum.
