Ex-German Minesweepers for Albania
In 1926 it was reported by N.I.D. that two ex-German warships “had been purchased from Italy by Albania and named “Shqipnia” and “Skanderberg”. In the absence of information relating to the exact type of vessel involved, or their former names in German service, the Admiralty advised against raising objections, on the grounds that it might invite objections to the British practice of not considering trawlers used as war vessels as being precluded from transfer by the WNT. The two ships were in fact the ex-German minesweepers FM16 and FM23, which had been sold into commercial service before being acquired by Albania in 1925.
