Fort Siloso on Sentosa Island was the location of one of the coastal fortresses developed in the 1930s as part of the Singapore Naval Base (there was a pre-existing fort there, but it was modernised and enhanced).It is probably the only coastal fortress in Singapore that has survived the development of the country, largely because Sentosa Island was allocated for recreational purposes. It used to be largely parklands, but now has large-scale tourist developments (e.g. Universal Studios, and something that looked like Disneyland), along with numerous resorts, beaches, restaurants etc. However, Fort Siloso - which is the western tip of the island - is still largely untouched, and is now preserved as a National Monument. Furthermore, it appears that whenever guns are discovered elsewhere on Singapore during construction activities, they are sent to Siloso to be displayed there as part of the attraction.The island is just off the Singapore CBD, and can be reached by monorail, cablecar, bus, and I think there even is a boardwalk/bridge you can walk over now.I went out there in February 2026 to try and find this gun, which I saw and photographed in 1988 when I first went to Sentosa Island. I had looked for it when I went back in 2018, but didn't find it, so I thought I would give it another go.Unfortunately, shortly after I arrived on the island, the sky opened with a tropical downpour, and my investigation was cut short. So most of the following photographs of the fort were taken in 2018 rather than 2026.
