Proposed Sale of USS SC-96 to the Government of Turkey

On 7 October 1923 Rear-Admiral Bristol, Senior US Naval Officer (Turkey), sent a message to Opnav asking if it was possible under the Limitations of Armament Treaty to dispose of the submarine chaser SC-96 to the Government of Turkey for use in their customs department or any other service. Opnav responded that it was not, and directed that the vessel be stripped of military equipment and sold to the highest private bidder. SC-96 was eventually sold to a private Greek purchaser on 3 April 1924.
