ARA La Argentina was a 6,500 ton training cruiser built by Vickers-Armstrong in the United Kingdom for the Argentine Republic. She was ordered on 31 July 1935, laid down on 11 January 1936, and launched on 16 March 1937. Her completion was delayed by the Royal Navy’s rearmament program, and she was not completed until 31 January 1939. She sailed for Argentina on 12 February 1939.

It has been asserted that there are records in the Library of the Circulo Naval in Buenos Aires that show that the Royal Navy made a formal offer to purchase the vessel during construction. It has not yet been possible to corroborate this claim.
