HMNZS Paea (ex-Q1184) was a Harbour Defence Motor Launch (HDML) built in 1942 by Madden and Lewis, San Francisco out of Oregon planking, spending her war years in New Zealand and Fijian waters. She was used for many years as a fishery patrol vessel, and then the training ship for the RNZNVR Auckland Division, until sold in 1985. She has now been restored to her wartime configuration by her private owners. I have fond memories of this ship being our escort vessel during my sailing expeditions as a midshipman. These photos were taken during the RNZN 75th anniversary fleet review in 2016.
