Next museum visited was the National Maritime Museum in Amsterdam. You might think that a country with strong naval traditions such as the Netherlands might find something about their Navy to mention in a large national institution such as this, but while they managed to include long tales of woe about the evils of colonisation, and research on matters such as 'gender at sea', you could go right through the museum and not even know they had a Navy!Fortunately their library didn't get the memo, and it had an extensive collection of books - in both Dutch and English - on both Dutch and general Naval History. I only managed to scratch the surface there but did find gems like booklets of plans for some of their coastal battleships - which they didn't seem to have a problem with me copying. If you have the time to invest - and particularly if you could read Dutch - I think this library could be a useful source of research material.But the museum itself is probably missable.
