The status of this museum ship is a bit uncertain. She was laid down in 1965 as the 'Black Star' for Ghana, however due to a coup, the order was cancelled, and after being laid up for a few years, she was eventually taken over by the RN and commissioned as HMS Mermaid. She served in the RN for several years and was an active participant in the 'Cod Wars' including a run-in with the Icelandic gunboat Baldur. In 1977 she was sold to Malaysia, where she served as the Frigate Hang Tuah for many years, before being converted into a Training Ship. In 2018 she was retired and became a museum ship in Lumut. However, the Royal Malaysian Navy Museum has since been moved from Lumut to Melaka, and Hang Tuah no longer appears to be open to the public. But she is still berthed in Lumut Naval Base, and I got this photograph of her while I was passing on the Pangkor ferry.
