Japanese attempt to buy Argentine Submarines
In 1927 Argentina ordered three 775-ton submarines from the Italian Franco Tosi shipyard in Taranto, Salta, Santa Fe and Santiago del Estero.
In 1933 Japan made two offers to buy the submarines from Argentina, the first before the submarines were completed in Italy, and the second just before the submarines arrived in Argentina, for 30% more than the total cost. Although the second offer was seriously considered by the Argentine cabinet, it was not accepted, and the boats were commissioned into the Argentine Navy.
