Museum Report
The focus of the Usa City Peace Museum is specifically the Usa Naval Air Group, established in 1939 as an operational training unit. It covers carrier aviation training, air attacks on the base and the special-attack units formed there. Exhibits include original naval-aviation material, wartime film and the full-size replica A6M2 Zero used in the film ‘The Eternal Zero’. The museum is free to visit, and all of the information is presented in Japanese.
Usa is about half an hour from Oga by train, and became somewhat infamous in the post-war period when it shipped goods labelled “MADE IN Usa” to America – which some people thought was a bit on the nose! The peace museum is well away from the train stations, so this is another case of having to pay for a taxi to take you there, wait, and then take you back.
