French sloops for Ecuador
In 2023 Warship World reported that in the 1930s, Ecuador attempted to buy new warships but missed out on buying the two French sloops Inconstant and Papin. It subsequently transpired that the magazine had made a grammatical error and had intended to refer to attempts by Ecuador to buy these vessels in 1900. Those attempts were unsuccessful, however Janes Fighting Ships reported for several years that the ships had been transferred, and this error has propagated into several modern references.
