The carrier was part of a larger 'Russian'-themed tourist attraction which also included a replica of the cathedral opposite the Kremlin on red square, a stack of Russian tanks and planes, Russian shops, and what appeared to be Russian staff walking around in traditional uniforms. There was also a stunt show there with what appeared to be Russian men pretending to be commandos, and there were Russian dancing girls performing in the Hangar.
In 2014 the museum really was in the middle of nowhere - a long taxi ride through empty fields from the nearest train station, but it looked like they were putting a lot of infrastructure in to convert it into an industrial area, so it might be different now.The ship itself was well-maintained and well-presented - a lot of it was opened up - with the exception of the machinery rooms, so I suspect the machinery was no longer onboard. Given my habit of complaining about the lack of gift shops at many museums, Kiev had 3 or 4 gift shops scattered around onboard - but unfortunately they just sold drinks, snacks and kids toys.There was also a hotel operating onboard, however unfortunately they didn't have a license for foreign guests, so we couldn't stay there.
